Braves enjoy mixed results in seasons opening week

The Great Bend AA American Legion baseball team is 2-1 after the first week of the season.
The Braves fell 12-6 against Dodge City in Game 1, and had Game 2 cut short in the third inning on Tuesday. That game was ended when it was tied, 5-5.
The Braves rebounded with 11-1 and 17-2 wins over Larned on Wednesday.
Great Bend hosts Pratt on Monday, starting at 6 p.m.
 
Dodge City 12, Great Bend 6
Bryce Lytle (0-0) pitched the first six innings in Game 1 and was relieved in the top of the seventh inning, Great Bend had a 6-1 lead at that time.
Lytle allowed three earned runs while giving up four hits, walking six and striking out seven batters.
Brett Basye came on in relief and pitched 2/3 of the seventh, striking out two of the six batters that he faced while walking two and giving up one hit and one error.  
Basye, who is credited with the loss, was then relieved in the seventh by Brayden Smith with runners on first and second.
Great Bend still held a 6-5 lead.
Smith allowed one hit and walked two batters before leaving the game with an injury.
Down 8-6, Keaton Reneau  came in to pitch the final 1/3 of the inning, but not before Dodge City added four more runs in the top of the seventh to explode for 11 runs in the inning and lead 12-6.
The Braves out hit Dodge City 8-5, but three untimely errors and a combined 14 walks and four hit batsman propelled Dodge City to their first win of the season.
Offensively, Great Bend was led by Jacob Murray and Lylte with two hits each, Connor Ireland and Keaton Reneau each had a double.

Dodge City scored three runs in the first inning on two hits and added two runs in the third.
Peyton Mauler allowed five earned runs on three hits while walking five and striking out four.
Great Bend responded with two runs in the second.  
In the third inning with no outs, one run in and one runner on, Ireland belted a two-run, inside-the-park home run to tie the game at five.
Great Bend worked to load the bases and then had the game called due to weather.
Logan Perry led the team with two of the team's eight hits.  
 
Great Bend 11, Larned 1 (5)
Murray (1-0) pitched a complete game win in Game 1, allowing one earned run on two hits while walking three and striking out nine.
The Braves, offensively, were led by Lytle going 2-4 with an RBI and Tristan Mitchell, who had an RBI double.
The Braves scored in each of the four innings and stranded eight runners.
 
Great Bend 17, Larned 2 (4)
Basye pitched a complete-game win and moved his record to (1-1).  
Basye allowed two earned runs on four hits, while walking one and striking out seven.  
Basye led the team in offense, going 2-3 with a double and four RBIs.
Reneau also went 2-3 at the plate with 3 RBIs.
