Broncos hold off Great Bend Bat Cats

The El Dorado Broncos edged the Great Bend Bat Cats 8-7 in Wednesday’s Sunflower Collegiate League baseball game. The Bat Cats (4-2) nearly rallied from a five-run deficit at Al Burns Field.

Bronco reliever Nick Wyatt struck out Brady Michel for the final out to strand the tying runner on base at Al Burns Field.

The Broncos roared to a 5-0 lead on pitcher Carson Bell. Carson Cox doubled home Jamey Richey and Jake Melton singled home Tanner White and Cox in the first inning. Brant Kym singled home Cooper Elliot and White doubled home Kym in the second inning.

Bat Cat Alex Guevera singled home Zach Poe and Collin Meinert singled home Ryan Monson in the fourth inning. Guevara scored on an error. Chandler Bloomer singled home Daunte Freeman in the fifth inning for a 5-4 score.

El Dorado’s Elliot scored on a groundout and Kym scored on a sixth-inning error for a 7-4 lead. Freeman’s single drove home Luke Repka and Meinert for a 7-6 score after six innings.

El Dorado’s Cole Marler delivered a valuable seventh-inning insurance run with a RBI single that scored Melton for an 8-6 lead.

Zach Poe’s two-out double scored pinch runner Brenden Tauber. But Nick Wyatt retired  Michel to end the ballgame.
