Buffaloes rally beats Panthers

GARDEN CITY – Great Bend pitcher Jordan Turner threw brilliantly for four innings with four strikeouts. But Garden City rallied for 11 runs in the final two at-bats for a 12-2 victory in Tuesday’s Western Athletic softball game. Garden City (9-2, 7-0 WAC) stays unbeaten in league play. Great Bend (0-12, 0-8 WAC) welcomes Garden City Thursday for a twin bill.

GARDEN CITY 12, PANTHERS 2 – Great Bend led 2-1 after 41/2 innings. Halle Post scored on DeShawnna Bryant’s first-inning single. Rylee Prilling singled home Post after she doubled in the fifth inning. Analiz Rivas doubled twice and Post doubled.

At that point, Turner had retired 12 of 16 Garden City batters, yielding one unearned run. But nine of the next 12 batters reached base in a 7-run fifth inning. The Buffaloes had five hits, two walks and two errors.

Six consecutive batters reached base in the sixth inning. Angel Serrano scored the game-ending run on a passed ball. Brie Manwarren doubled twice and drove home four runs.
