HAVEN 43, HOISINGTON 35 — Haven's powerful 6-4 Dalton Bontrager muscled for nine fourth quarter points as the Wildcats downed Hoisington 45-35 in the Hoisington 3A substate basketball semifinals.

Haven converted seven free throws and outscored the Cardinals 14-6 in the fourth quarter after a 29-29 tie. Bontrager scored 19 points and Nash Wray added 10 points. Wray hit a 3-pointer for a 33-31 lead the Wildcats never lost. The Wildcats outscored the Cardinals 15-0 from 3-point range.

Tony Moore led the Cardinals with 11 points and Caiden Hoffman had eight first-half points.

"We had done a good job attacking, but we didn't get shots that fourth quarter," said Hoisington coach Kyle Haxton. "We had a ton of turnovers that caused us to foul. It was a hard-fought game and both teams got after it defensively."

Cardinal seniors Moore, Hoffman and Randy Chambers closed out their careers at home.
