The Hoisington Cardinals, 2025 Gene Keady Classic boys runner-up

HOLCOMB 65, HOISINGTON 59 (1ST) — No. 4 ranked 3A Holcomb fought back Hoisington's challenge 65-59 to capture back-to-back Keady Classic basketball championships.

Holcomb's Brody Deniston hot-shooting scored 24 points and Ayden Brown added 14 points. Hoisington countered with double figure scoring by Mason Martin (14), Kobe Crawford (14) and Marcus Ingram (12) and three steals.

The Cardinals held Holcomb's transition game in check and limited the Longhorns to 7 of 18 perimeter shooting with an effective matchup zone defense. The Cardinals converted five 3-pointers.

"Our matchup zone was good tonight," said Hoisington basketball coach Kyle Haxton. "We understood what it took to win tonight. We stopped their transition game and executed a good game plan. We worked inside/out on offense and attacked the rim. We moved the ball and got some looks inside. I was proud of our fight and effort tonight."

ST. JOHN 66, LARNED 51 (3RD) — St. John's trio of Jace Reyes (14), Emmett Delp (13) and Braxton Alpers (11) scored in double figures for a 66-51 third-place victory over Larned in Saturday's Keady Basketball Classic.

Larned's Anthony Gonzalez led the Indians with 17 and Tristan Regan added 13 points.

HOISINGTON 53, LARNED 43 (SEMIFINAL) — Hoisington's Brody Pfannenstiel muscled inside for six late-game points to spark a game-ending 10-0 scoring burst for a 53-43 semifinal victory over the Larned Indians in the Keady Classic.
