HOISINGTON – Halstead’s Karenna Gerber scored 31 points as Halstead's girls roared past pesky Hoisington 48-34 in Friday’s Central Kansas League basketball game.
Livvy Brewer hit a jumper, Isabelle Gonzalez and Keeley Wolf converted free throws for a 22-17 score. Gerber scored 18 first-half points to go with 12 rebounds. Halstead led 40-24 after three quarters. Kaleigh O’Brien scored nine points and Josie Engel finished with six points and six boards.
Hoisington (4-13, 1-5 CKL) Keeley Wolf led the pack with 10 points, followed by four points apiece from Livvy Brewer, Isabelle Gonzalez and Ava Henry.
Halstead (14-3, 5-1 CKL) has lost to No. 3 Haven (3A) and No. 5 Nickerson (4A).

CPL leader St. John (15-3, 7-0 CPL) won its seventh consecutive game to clinch a tie for the CPL title with Tanner Halling and Marshall Woolf each contributing 12 points. Marshall Woolf had four assists.

BUCKLIN – Macksville’s boys placed four players in double figures, but lost a heartbreaker 64-63 to pesky Bucklin in a non-league basketball game.
Macksville placed Harley Blaske (15), Ryan Kuckelman (13), Cleven Huggins (13) and Rogelio Ibarra (1) in double figures. Kuckleman contributed 15 rebounds and five assists in his best high school game. Huggins grabbed 14 rebounds.
”We really did a good job of continuing to battle after Bucklin shot the ball so well,” said Macksville coach Jeff Kuckelman. “We fought back a second time when they built a double digit lead in the second half. We got it back tied but could never get the lead. Our kids were very resilient but we just turned it over too much to give a serious chance to win the game.”
