LARNED – Hoisington’s girls raced to a 17-5 first-quarter advantage and went on to down Larned Tuesday on Senior Night, 46-27 in a Central Kansas League game.
Larned fought back with a good defensive effort in the second quarter but could not make up any ground and trailed 24-12 at halftime before Hoisington used another surge, in the third quarter, to outscore Larned 16-9 and remove any doubt as to the outcome.
“I was happy with our defensive execution and our effort,” said Larned coach Jerrod Smith said. “Our problem was we didn’t take good shots and we really did not rebound well as Hoisington got too many second and third chances. Hoisington is a good team that guards well and they have good balance offensively.”
Hoisington was the more aggressive team on offense and it paid off as they got to the free throw line 21 times, making 15 while Larned was just 2 of 5. Kylee Hahn and Mallory Mooney provided Hoisington with a big rebounding edge as they continually got second chance baskets.
Hoisington’s Ellie Crawford and Kylee Hahn each had 10 points while Mallory Mooney scored 8 and Addy Mason 7. Hoisington made 15 of 41 field goal attempts for 36%. Hoisington (10-7) travels to Nickerson Friday.
Larned made 11 of 41 field goal attempts for 26%. Jadyn Pinkston was the only Lady Indian in double figures with 11. Karley Lemuz and Ariana Hemken had 4 each.
