Cardinals sweep Halstead Dragons

HOISINGTON 62, HALSTEAD 45

HOISINGTON – Bralen Thompson's highlight show featured a pair of slam dunks and a dominating 24-point game to spark Hoisington past Halstead 62-45 in Friday's Central Kansas League basketball game. Noah Dolezal scored 14 points.

Thompson swung the momentum with a score and two assists to Dolezal before halftime before a 10-point third quarter to spark a 23-2 scoring run for a 45-24 lead.

Reserve Caiden Hoffman nearly brought the house down with a 3-point attempt after the 300-pounder handled the basketball like a point guard.

Jackson Swift scored 20 points to lead Halstead.

HOISINGTON GIRLS 41, HALSTEAD 30

HOISINGTON – Red-hot Hoisington sprinted to a 22-6 lead and coasted past Halsted 41-30 in Friday's Central Kansas League basketball game. Hoisington converted 9 of 12 shots as Addy Mason and Jordyn Boxberger each hit a pair of 3-pointers. 

"We shot the ball extremely well the first quarter," said Hoisington coach Mandy Mason. "We got great shots from ball penetration and kickouts."

Macy Hanzlick scored 13 points, grabbed nine rebounds and played her typical all-around game. Addy Mason scored 11 points with a trio of 3-pointers. Jordyn Boxberger contributed 10 points and 10 rebounds.

The Cardinals (9-6, 2-2 CKL) earned back-to-back CKL road wins.

Halstead (6-9, 1-3 CKL) was sparked by Dominique Schutte with 14 points and a trio of 3-pointers.

CENTRAL PLAINS GIRLS 35, ST. JOHN 28

CLAFLIN – The No. 1 ranked Central Plains girls escaped St. John's ball-control game with a hard-fought 35-28 Central Prairie League basketball victory over St. John. The Oilers haven't swept 67 consecutive Central Prairie League games since 2012-2013.

The Oilers outscored the Tigers 16-7 in the fourth quarter after trailing 21-19. A balanced offense for the Oilers featured Madison McGuire (8), Brynna Hammeke (7), Kassidy Nixon (7) and Kyla Metro (7). 

St. John (9-6, 3-1 CPL) was led by Darby Smith with 15 points.

CLAFLIN – St. John's Elijah Delp scored 18 points and Preston Dunn and Quade Smith added 12 apiece as the Tigers edged past Central Plains 59-41 in Friday's Central Prairie League basketball game.

Peyton Ryan scored 21 points and Evan Stratmann added 12 for the Oilers (1-14, 1-4 CPL).
