HOISINGTON 48, NORTON 21

HOISINGTON – Hoisington tailback Legend Robinson gained 166 yards and scored five touchdowns to spark the Cardinals past Norton 48-21 in 2A, District 8. The Cardinals (6-1, 4-0) earn a showdown at Beloit (5-2, 4-0) for the district title next week. The Cardinals shut out Beloit 26-0 to reach last year's 2A state championship game.

Robinson scored on runs of 3, 6, 7, 9 and 45 yards. Quarterback Wyatt Wikum scored on a 28-yard dash and completed a 44-yard scoring pass to Chase Steinert. The Cardinals converted an interception by Ian Smith and a fumble recovery by Gage Britt into offensive touchdowns. Smith contributed three tackles and four assists.

The Cardinals rushed for 366 yards keyed by center Logan Philbern, guards Caiden Hoffman and Spencer Mintz, tackles Cole Gilliland and Sam Baldyga and tight end Gage Britt. Wikum passed for 70 yards.

"We won the battle up front," said Hoisington coach Zach Baird. "The guys settled down and executed offensively. We played fast and executed. Wyatt Wikum played extremely well. It was his best game. He made plays in all facets of the game."

Norton's Garrett Urban provided all of the Bluejays' offense with 64- and 79-yard touchdown runs and a 87-yard kickoff return.

"Defensively, we got off blocks and rotated guys on the defensive line," Baird said. "Chase Meyer played well in the second half. We've got to play harder on special teams. You can't give up a touchdown on a kickoff."
