HILLSBORO — Hoisington's No. 2 singles Gabriel Pawlowski captured first place to spark the Cardinals (57) to a 1-point victory over Smoky Valley (56) at Thursday's Hillsboro Tennis Invitational

Pawlowski defeated Smoky Valley's Crew Elliott, 8-5 for first place.

No. 2 singles Jasper Pawlowski lost 8-2 to Sterling's Jace Darnauer in a battle of state qualifiers from last season.

Hoisington's No. 1 doubles Leyton Mooney/Xander Mooney and No. 2 doubles Knoxly Nettleingham/Parker Turner placed third by winning tiebrakers.

Mooney/Mooney defeated Sterling's Ben Bierstedt/Trace DeShon 8-7 (7-3) and  Nettleingham/ Turner edged Sterling's Hayden Dobson/James McGlynn, Sterling, 8-7 (9-7) for third place.
