Central Plains Oilers roll by Cardinals, 95-17

HOISINGTON — Central Plains all-stater Emily Ryan started on fire with 44 points on 16 of 20 field goals. Her Oiler teammates followed suit with a dominating 95-17 basketball victory over Hoisington. The Oilers earned their state record 112th consecutive victory. 

Ryan scored 29 first-half points and converted three consecutive 3-point plays for a 30-2 lead. Kassidy Nixon and Addison Crites each scored 13 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Ryan and Nixon each dished out  five assists. 

The Oilers scored the first 21 points. The Oilers led 30-4 after one quarter and 55-8 at halftime behind 19 of 36 shooting. Ryan ranks seventh all-time with 2,336 career points and passed Osborne's Brooke Ubelaker (2,293) and Marysville's Kendra Wecker (2,305) on the scoring charts.

Sparkplug Keeley Wolf paced Hoisington with a career high 14 points.

"Keeley Wolf shot the ball well tonight. Good luck to the teams that have to play Central Plains," said Hoisington coach Mandy Mason. "Ryan makes things so difficult at both ends. It's impossible to pass over her."

HOISINGTON BOYS 62, CENTRAL PLAINS 28 — Hoisington snapped Central Plains' 53-game winning streak as Mason Haxton scored 17 points and Ryan Woydziak and Braden Mooney each scored nine points. The Cardinals led 29-12 at halftime and steadily pulled away for a dominating victory over Barton County rival Central Plains.

"I'm very pleased; were solid with the basketball and we played tough and disciplined," said Hoisington coach Kyle Haxton. "Defensively, we did a good job. We continue to play physical. We've got a lot of depth. We give our guys a break and don't lose a whole lot."

The Cardinals play Bucklin at Larned's Gene Keady Classic. Central Plains plays Smith Center at the Russell Tournament.

Minton's shutout sparks sweep over Pratt

BY JIM MISUNAS jmisunas@gbtribune.com PRATT — After Daxton Minton spun a 6-0 shutout, Great Bend completed a hard-fought 7-5 victory to sweep Pratt in Friday's non-league baseball doubleheader. Koehn Ribordy earned a save in game two and led the offense for the Panthers (6-1) with seven runs batted home in the twin bill. PANTHERS 6, PRATT 0 (G1) — Minton (1-0) fashioned a 2-hitter in a masterful 78-pitch outing. Third baseman Trenton Kern turned a double-play on Madden Wilson's fifth-inning groundball. Carson Umphres opened the game with a leadoff homer. Two Pratt errors and a walk led to a 3-run third inning. Koehn Ribordy singled home Kern and Minton. Ribordy scored on Owen Kaiser's single for a 4-0 lead. Ribordy singled home Minton in the fifth inning. Ribordy scored on a seventh-inning wild pitch. PANTHERS 7, PRATT 5 (G2) — Ribordy stayed red hot with two singles and four runs batted home. Ribordy recorded seven outs to earn a save after Slade Mohr pitched 42/3 innings. Pratt led 4-1 after two innings. Owen Schmidt scored on Cresten Pore's first-inning single. Madden Wilson singled in Kameron Cox. Gatlin scored on Craft's single.
