SALINA – After playing flawless defense for five innings, the Great Bend Chiefs collapsed defensively with four errors at the Salina Grand Slam baseball tournament.

The Salina Falcons scored two unearned runs behind four consecutive errors for a hard-fought 6-4 quarterfinal victory Saturday. Chiefs pitcher Colin Hall recorded two seventh-inning outs, but Sheldon Perez, Jason Duong and Brogen Richardson reached base on consecutive errors to score two seventh-inning runs.

The Chiefs (16-11) lost three of four games at the Salina Tournament. The Falcons and Chiefs will both compete in the Great Bend AAA zone tournament.

Hill drove home Alex Schremmer and Joey Soupiset singled home Townshend Kurth for a 2-0 first-inning lead. Salina’s Jonas Baughman doubled home Jovan Suarez in the second inning for a 2-1 score.
