After a 1-1 split against Dodge City Tuesday the Great Bend Chiefs doubled up on their counterparts from Pratt Wednesday. Great Bend routed their guests in the first half of Wednesday’s doubleheader by a 9-1 decision. Jacob Milton started his third contest on the mound for the Chiefs and saddled a no-hitter in the process. Walks and a passed ball contributed to Pratt’s only score in game one.
Great Bend then defeated Pratt 12-4 in game two of Wednesday’s twinbill. Brayden Smith took to the hill in his first start in over a year and took the opposition in order in the opening inning. Logan Perry worked the last five innings to collect the victory.
With the sweep against Pratt the Chiefs improve their overall record to 15-12 on the season. Great Bend will take on Paola at 1 p.m. Friday in the opening round of the three-day West Fest in Hays. The Chiefs will then tangle with Doherty at 5 p.m. Friday evening before a 2 p.m. bout with Colorado Baseball Academy on Saturday. Bracket play will take place Sunday.
