STAFFORD COUNTY – Ellinwood’s 2A defending state champion Erin Hammeke captured medalist honors (18:52.24) at Thursday’s St. John Cross Country Invitational. Macksville’s Madison Butler (20:47.23) was third medalist and Ellinwood’s Ashtin Klepper was fourth medalist (20:47.8).

Andale’s girls placed first (30) and Ellinwood (39) placed runner-up.

“It was really a nice day to run.  Madison Butler ran into some good runners that helped her reach a new PR,” said Macksville coach Mike Hullman. “All the girls team ran season PRs.  They ended up Fifth overall with a number of good teams. We need to get our runners closer to Madison.”

Ellinwood’s Asher Miller earned ninth medalist honors (17:52.31). Otis-Bison’s Peytan Butler (18:10.96) placed 12th and St. John’s Uriel Calleros (18:22.29) finished 14th.

Andale (25) finished ahead of Holcomb (37) and Ellinwood (67).

“On the boys side, they ran new season PRs,” Hullman said. “Jesse Nava ran a new personal best PR by taking off almost two minutes off his previous PR.  He skipped under the 20-minute barrier.  The other runners took off a minute off their previous season PRs.”
