KINGMAN — Great Bend's Ian Premer dunked early and often during a 6-slam dunk performance in a 77-37 rout of Clearwater in Tuesday's Kingman Basketball Classic.

The Premer family welcomed a second Premer to Tuesday's dunkathon when Alec Premer turned an assist by Jaden Prilling into a fourth-quarter slam dunk that drew rave reviews from the Panther starters.

"The guys have seen Alec do that in practice, so they were excited," said Great Bend coach Kyle Kriegh. "It was definitely a team effort tonight."

As usual, Ian Premer took center stage with a 21-point first half and five dunks in a six-basket stretch off a powerful first step. It was clear the Indians was unable to match Premer's physical presence.

"Ian is super quick and his court awareness is super," Kriegh said.

Crafty point guard Daxton Minton performed at a high level with 10 assists and 13 points, highlighted by a pair of 3-pointers. MInton's craftiest work came on back-to-back steals to start the second half.

"Daxton played really well tonight," Kriegh said. "He set up his teammates"

Mr. Reliable Jacob Hall showcased his typical versatility with a 15-point night that started with a nifty backdoor pass to Cooper Ohnmacht.

"Hall is a 'thoroughbred' who's good at everything he does," Kriegh said.

Great Bend dominated from the outset with a 24-point first quarter and 44-point first half. Premer converted 10 of 11 first-half shots. Minton was brilliant with a 11-point first half and several assists.

The Panthers kept Clearwater off-balance with a mix of zone and pressure schemes that held the Indians to 13 first-half turnovers and 14 of 32 shooting (44%) for the night.

"When we change things defensively, it helps keep our tempo up," Kriegh said. "Tonight allowed us to practice some defenses we wanted to see. It's good to see those defenses in a game situation."

The Panther reserves continued an attack mode by playing an aggressive tempo.

"The best thing I saw is we kept playing at a high level," Kriegh said. "That was a good team effort by everyone we played."

Clearwater's Blaze Clevenger scored 11 points.

The Panthers (3-0) meet Haven at 4:30 p.m. Friday with a likely showdown against defending 2A state champion Sterling scheduled Saturday for the Kingman championship.
