Elkhart Wildcats win 2A state baseball title

Elkhart captured the 2A state baseball championship with a 3-2 victory over Marion Friday at the Great Bend Sports Complex. Elkhart (22-0) finished with an unbeaten record and Marion (20-2) had its best finish in school history.

ELKHART 3, MARION 2 (1ST) – Elkhart’s Elian Preito scored the game-winning run on a wild pitch after Prieto, Lane Whisennand and Chace O’Hair singled in the seventh inning. Pitcher Garrett Hall pitched seven innings to earn the victory.

Elkhart led 1-0 when pinch runner Kalub Lee scored on Lance Addington’s fourth-inning groundout.

Marion’s L Lanning delivered a two-run sixth-inning single to score G Heidebrecht and Sam Zinn for a 2-1 lead. Elkhart’s Hoskinson delivered an RBI single to score J Hastings for a 2-2 after six innings.

ROSSVILLE 19, HUMBOLDT 3 (3RD) – Rossville’s Cody Dyche, McGwyre Leathers and William Reeves each drove in three runs.

ELKHART 14, HUMBOLDT 3 (SEMIFINAL) – Elkhart scored 10 runs in the fourth inning. Garrett Hall drove home four runs and Javier Gomez drove in three runs.

MARION 9, ROSSVILLE 4 (SEMIFINAL) –  Marion pitcher Jaxton Tracy worked five innings and struck out seven batters.

Luke Lanning tripled and Chase Stringer doubled. Jaxton Tracy, Lanning, Stringer, Sam Zinn and Blaine Mermis drove home runs.
