LANGDON – Ellinwood freshman Tyler Stuhlsatz was on fire with five 3-pointers and 22 points and David Hammeke delivered 18 points as the Eagles roared past Otis-Bison 65-31 to capture the Fairfield Falcon Classic championship. Freshman sensation Britton Dutton added 14 points.

Dutton (20 ppg) and Hammeke (19 ppg) earned Falcon all-Tournament honors. It was the first tournament title for the Eagles in recent memory.

“That’s our best basketball game of the season,” said Ellinwood coach Derek Joiner. “Playing four freshmen, we’re putting it all together on the run. We’re looking at daily improvement and we did that this week.

The Eagles (3-1) led 20-5 with a dominating first quarter as the Cougars scored on one of 10 offensive possessions. The Eagles outscored the Cougars 32-13 after halftime. The Eagles showed a nice mix of inside scoring with six 3-pointers. Ellinwood slowed down the Cougars with full-court 3-2 trapping defense and aggressive man-to-man.

“Tyler Stuhlsatz is the type of shooter who can scores in bunches,” Joiner said. “It’s nice to see those guys gain confidence.”

Otis-Bison (2-2) was paced by Jayce Kohls with 11 points and Peytan Butler added nine points. Kohls and Ethan Schneider earned Falcon All-Tournament honors.

OTIS-BISON GIRLS 44, ELLINWOOD 23 (1st) – Kearney State signee Maddie Wiltse dominated with 19 points and superior inside rebounding and defense in a 44-23 championship victory over Central Prairie League rival Ellinwood. Cora Anderson scored 10 points.
