WICHITA -- Ellinwood's cross country faced stiff competition at  the Wild Wind Fest featuring Wichita metro teams and out-of-state runners.

Ellinwood recorded eight personal records.

The high school fed off the energy of a course packed with rowdy spectators for eight PRs," said Ellinwood coach Jeff Zook. "Jenna Borror, Ali Gonzalez, Madison Dombroski, Heidi Brauer, Shae Hoskins, Ethan Robl, Grey Ringwald, and Jonas Kern all set new bests. It was great work. We look to more great racing over the next few weeks."

Zook liked how the runners kept competing in the last half of the race.

"Our focus has been being aggressive late in the race and being fast finishers," Zook said. "The high school runners did that. The girls team moved up two places in the last half, and the boys team gained one spot."

Ellinwood Middle School runners competed in their final meet. Fifth-place Eden Ringwald, 24th-place Addilyn Joiner, 22nd-place Caleb Herrman, and 29th-place Cody Knop medaled. Middle school races were combined into 6-8 girls and 6-8 boys.

In addition to these medalists, nearly all middle schoolers earned personal records in the 2-mile race. Ringwald, Joiner, Leah Steffan, Lauren Rugan, Emmalynn Perron, Maggie Kern, and Victoria Recinos had PRs.

"Chloe Vaupel ran a gutsy race finishing in the middle of our pack and only seconds off her PR after battling some sickness," Zook said.

The middle school boys squad all with PRs included Herrman, Knop, Josh Zook, Kaden Clawson, Zarron Luker and Jace Drake.
