Ellinwood baseball loses twin bill
ELLIS — Ellinwood’s Gage Hosman tripled home two runs, but Ellis rolled past the Eagles 12-4 and 15-0 for a baseball doubleheader sweep Friday.
Ellinwood (1-7) plays at Hoisington (6-2) Thursday and Ellis (6-2) plays Sylvan-Lucas (2-6) Tuesday.
ELLIS 12, ELLINWOOD 4 (G1) — Ellinwood walked 11 hitters and seven errors led to seven unearned runs off hard-luck starter David Hammeke.
Ellis’ Easton Burton singled home a run after a bases-loaded walk for a 2-0 lead. Ellinwood’s Hosman tripled home Luke Wondra and Kodie McFerren for a 2-2 tie after 31/2 innings.
Ellinwood committed four errors and yielded two walks and a hit batter in a seven-run fourth inning. Carter Bollig and Talon Torline delivered RBI singles for a 9-2 lead. Burton’s RBI groundout gave Ellis a 10-2 lead.
McFarren tripled home Wondra and Woodson Corbett doubled home McFerren in a two-run sixth inning for a 10-4 score. A bases-loaded walk and bases-loaded hit batter handed Ellis two more runs.
ELLIS 15, ELLINWOOD 0 (G2) — Ellis pitcher Tegan Caing struck out eight batters in a two-hit shutout to overpower the Eagles. David Hammeke and Ryan Niles singled for Ellinwood’s hits.
Ellis’ Konnor Pfeifer drove home three runs and Zach Eck drove home two runs. Tegan Cain, Talon Torline and Zeke Haag added RBIs.
