HOISINGTON 37, ELLSWORTH 7

HOISINGTON — Hoisington quarterback Mason Haxton completed a career high three touchdown passes to spark the Cardinals past Ellsworth 37-7 in Friday's 2A, District 8 showdown.

Haxton connected with Chase Robinson on 15- and 18-yard scoring strikes and added a 60-yard touchdown to Hunter Morris. Joshua Ball scored on a 1-yard dive. Morris added a 17-yard touchddown. Evan Folks converted a 6-yard scoring run.

"Mason Haxton was really good. He got us into the right plays," said Hoisington coach Zach Baird. "We’ve got five ‘starting’ running backs. Hunter Morris is a great running back. He’s a smart player. "For the most part, we executed fairly well."

Hoisington (6-0, 3-0 District) rushed for 391 yards and added 108 yards passing. The Cardinals’ line features C Logan Philbern, RG Cole Gilliland, RT Legend Robinson, LG Nolan Philbern and LT Braden Mooney. Holt Hanzlick sparked the defense with two interceptions and Chase Robinson intercepted a pass. Cole Steinert recovered a fumble.

"It’s a good team effort because we had good defensive plays from all three levels," Baird said. "Joshua Ball was extremely good defensively. Holt Hanzlick was unbelievable again. Cole Steinert was really good.”

Ellsworth (1-4, 1-2) scored on Dawson Krazter's 60-yard run.

OAKLEY — Oakley quarterback quarterback Eric Cain passed for two touchdowns and scored on a 36-yard interception return as the Plainsmen roared past Ellinwood 50-0 in 1A, District 3. Cain completed a 25-yard touchdown to Will Schmidt and a 28-yard score to Jackson Pfeifer. Ethan Abell scored on 26- and 42-yard runs,

Oakley (4-2, 3-2 District) shut down Ellinwood (0-6, 0-4 District) to minus 29 yards total offense. Ellinwood freshman Alex Brack delivered the Eagles' lone highlight when he ripped the football away from an Oakley receiver.

ST. JOHN — Macksville RB Michael Seward rushed for 108 yards and three touchdowns to spark the Mustangs past St. John in 8-Man 1, District 6. QB Ryan Kuckelman rushed for 60 yards and two scores and converted a touchdown pass to leading WR Cleven Huggins, who caught two balls for 56 yards.

Macksville (2-3,1-2 District) won its first district game and dropped Macksville (1-4, 0-3 District).

CENTRAL PLAINS 28, SYLVAN 26

SYLVAN GROVE — The Central Plains Oilers turned back a 2-point play to preserve a hard-fought 28-26 8-Man 2, District 5 football victory. Central Plains (3-1, 3-1) moves into prime playoff contention while Sylvan-Lucas (4-2, 2-2) drops back in the pack.

Central Plains' Guss Menges scored on a 35-yard run and rushed for 118 yards. Quarterback Michael Laymon completed a 7-yard touchdown pass to Karter Beck with 12 seconds left in the first half. Laymon converted a pair of 1-yard touchdown runs. Dawson McNeal and Michael Laymon converted 2-point plays for the 2-point victory.

Michael Laymon contributed 12 tackles and four assists. William Laymon had eight tackles and five assists.

SOUTH HAVEN — Stafford QB Dylan Gantz stayed red hot with four rushing touchdowns and a passing score in Stafford's wild 68-60 Eight-Man 2, District 6 victory. Gantz scored on runs of 1, 3, 10 and 27 yards and converted a 3-yard scoring strike to Josh Hildebrand.

Stafford (4-2, 2-2) needed every score because of South Haven's offense. Stafford's Kleyton Schreiber scored two touchdowns and rushed for 184 yards. Gantz gained 182 yards and Tai Hildebrand gained 178 yards. The Trojans rushed for 544 yards on 75 carries. Stafford plays Norwich (3-3, 3-1 District) next week.

KIOWA — South Barber quarterback Gatlin Jewell dazzled the Cougars with four rushing touchdowns and two passing touchdowns in a 68-18 rout of Otis-Bison in a non-district 8-man football game. Jewell rushed for 221 yards and completed a 25-yard scoring pass to Bryson Rathgeber and a 62-yard scoring strike to Caden Rathgerber.

Otis-Bison quarterback Kaden Foust completed a 14-yard touchdown pass to Christian Roth and a 23-yard scoring strike to Dalton Regan. Foust added an 11-yard touchdown run. Foust contributed 11 tackles and Ky Schwartz had six tackles.

Otis-Bison (1-5, 1-3) plays Chase (1-5, 1-4) Friday at home.
