Former Oiler Rolfs will join teammate

LAKE MARY, Fla. — Fort Hays State’s Taylor Rolfs will rejoin Central Plains High School teammate Reagan Phelan for the 2018 USA D-2 Women’s Basketball team which will spend 10 days touring Brazil.
Rolfs and her teammates are scheduled to play a four-game schedule against professional clubs located near Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Rolfs and her USA D-2 teammates will begin their Brazil trip in Orlando, Florida on July 30 for team orientation before departing for Sao Paulo.
Rolfs earned all-state 2A honors while helping the Oilers to three consecutive Class 2A state basketball championships and a 79-1 record. Rolfs averaged 8.1 ppg, converted 40 3-pointers and shot 72 percent on free throws last year for Fort Hays, 26-7 and 14-5 in the MIAA.
As a freshman, Rolfs averaged 4.3 ppg with 21 steals. Rolfs scored in double figures five times. She tallied a season-high 13 points against Bethel.
The 2018 USA D-2 Women’s Basketball Brazil Tour roster is comprised of 10 players from the NCAA Division 2 level. Phelan is one of five players from the MIAA. Central Missouri coach Dave Slifer is leading the team.

The team will start Wednesday, Aug. 1 againat Junidai before playing Osasco Aug. 2. The team will fly to Rio de Janeiro Aug. 3 where it will enjoy time on the world-famous Copacabana Beach and tour Christ the Redeemer Statue and Sugar Loaf Mountain.
Games will resume Aug. 4 against Mangueira Basquete Clube of Rio. The team plays Fluminense Aug. 6. The team will return Aug. 8.
While in Brazil the team will experience educational, cultural and social aspects of Brazilian life through city, school and sports club visits.
