GBMS 7th-graders finish unbeaten
The Great Bend Middle School 7th-grade football team repeated their magic with a second consecutive unbeaten season that led to the Western Athletic Conference championship.
"I’m so proud of our guys. We got better every single game. As a coach, that’s all I can ask,” said GBMS head coach Matt Barton. “We’re happy to be the MSWAC champions and finish the season a perfect 7-0. The future is bright for these guys.”
The Panthers finished off their perfect season with a 52-0 victory over Hays Middle School. The Panthers scored touchdowns on seven consecutive drives.
Quarterback Cooper Ohnmacht threw for two touchdowns, rushed for two touchdowns and returned a 60-yard punt for a score while also playing defense.
Corbyn Holinde rushed for a touchdown and caught a scoring pass. Kale Kern rushed for two touchdowns and Tray Smith scored a rushing touchdown. Jaxon Wondra had five receptions and a touchdown.
“Our defense goes out every play and works hard to create fumbles while holding the offense scoreless,” Barton said. “Putting everything together like the boys did gave us a 7-0 season.”
