Great Bend middle school wrestlers started their season with practice Tuesday. Thirty one athletes participated in the first practice in the new middle school wrestling room.
It was completed last year after the wrestling season had ended. Of the new facility, assistant coach Jake Hofflinger said, “the new room will add 20-30 minutes to every practice because we do not have to bus the kids and roll up the mats every day. We will also now be able to have our athletes shower after practice which was not an option at Washington school.”
Head coach Norbert Muth is excited get the season started. “We are going to focus on fundamentals and being in good position. A kid who knows a 100 moves is going to get beat by a kid who does not make mistakes. If it works for Olympic champion John Smith at Oklahoma State then it will work for us.”
The panther wrestlers open their season Nov. 15 in Dodge City.
