Panther bowlers sweep Demons

Great Bend Panther Bryce Moore captured the individual high series Thursday at 607 (216-175-216) at Walnut Bowl.

Last year’s 5A state runner-up Moore was jumping for joy during the three-game Baker format, rolling seven consecutive strikes to spark a three-game sweep over Dodge City.

The fifth spot in Bakers allows a player to roll extra shots in the 10th frame. Moore recorded four consecutive strikes in game 1 and three in a row in game 2. A pair of spares was good enough for a 155-150 Baker victory over Dodge City to finish off a 9-2 Western Athletic Conference dual victory. Moore recorded eight strikes in 11 attempts in Bakers.

“I rolled it better in Bakers,” Moore said. “I’m usually pretty steady. But I was a little nervous, being the first time I rolled the fifth spot in Bakers. But I found my spot and stayed with it.”

The Panthers recorded Baker scores of 211, 245 and 155, which was barely enough to edge Dodge City.

Panther Blake Sheets was runner-up at 603 (192-195-216) and Jordan Black placed fifth at 525 (156-182-187). Black and Sheets marked in five of six frames in Bakers and Roberts posted four consecutive strikes.

“We didn’t play our best, but it a good day,” Moore said.

Medalist Paige Wagner sparked a 9-2 victory for the Panther girls with a 610 series (194-228-188). She marked in all 10 frames in the 228 game, the highest game rolled by a Great Bend Panther Thursday.

“I was shooting for a 200,” Wagner said. “I was happy I had the high game today.”

Wagner also anchored the Baker format, helping the Panthers win the first game 174-148 with three consecutive strikes. Dodge City won the final two games to earn two points.

Panther state veteran Lexy Fox was runner-up at 531 (171-177-183).

The Great Bend boys junior varsity won 10-1. The Panther JV girls won 11-0.
