Great Bend Braves compete at Hays tourney

HAYS – The Great Bend Braves baseball team (2-10) finished with a 1-2 record at the Hays Tournament.

BRAVES 7, HAYS HBC HAMMER 0 – Braves pitcher Carson Poe and reliever Milsap shut out Hays HBC Hammer. Right fielder Eli Soupiset helped turn a double play.

Aiden Hekele’s single scored Slade Mohr and Peyden Oelger in a 5-run first inning. Oelger’s single scored Jaxon Wondra. Poe scored on a passed ball. Austin Gilbert scored on a wild pitch. Kale Kern was forced home on a walk. Eli Soupiset stole home for a 5-0 lead.

Gunnar Gilkison scored on a wild pitch and Poe scored on a passed ball for a 7-0 lead. Slade Mohr hit a sacrifice fly. Soupiset hit an RBI groundout. Hekele scored on a passed ball and Mohr scored on an error for an 11-0 victory.

PRATT GREENBACKS 8, BRAVES 0 – Hays tournament champion Pratt powered past the Braves with a no-hit performance by pitchers Jayden Mies and Josiah Schmidt.

Pratt's Noah Riley, Max Younie, Owen Schmidt, Barrett Bolen, Chaz Teafatiller and Ethan Koger drove home runs. 

FINNEY COUNTY 7, BRAVES 5 – Kale Kern doubled and homered and drove home two runs as the Braves nearly overcame a 7-1 deficit.

Oelger singled home Mohr for a second-inning run. Wondra scored on Poe’s single to start a 3-run fourth inning. Poe scored on Kern’s double. Kern scored on Colin Saffa’s sacrifice fly. Kern’s sixth-inning homer capped the Braves’ scoring.

Braves shortstop Wondra turned a first-inning double play. Second baseman Oelger turned a second-inning double play.
