JUNCTION CITY — Great Bend hurdles standout McKenzie Premer swept the 100-meter hurdles (16.94) and 300-meter hurdles (47.57) to spark the Panthers to first place (209.5 points) in Friday's Junction City Track Invitational. The Panther girls dominated the team scoring a year after Manhattan edged Great Bend for the team title last year.
Premer ran a leg on the first-place 1,600-meter relay (4:15.44) with Eliana Beckham, Sadie Spray and Kara Feist.
Other first-place winners were Valarie Luna, high jump (5-2); Emilia Diaz, 3,200 (12:30.24); Kyndall Blessing, javelin (120-2); and the 3,200-meter relay (10:45.84) with Emma Loomis, Darcy Feist, Kate Welcher and Beckham.
Taryn Warren led seven runner-up finishes in the shot put (35-21/4) and discus (107-3). Other second-place finishers were Macy Nachtigal, javelin (118-11); Katie Kuhlman, pole vault (8-6); Kara Feist, 200 (27.84); Sadie Spray, 300 hurdles (49.7) and Addy Nicholson, 3,200 (12:31.11).
The meet was conducted in 65-degree temperatures with winds gusting past 30 mph.
"It was a nice start to the season for the boys and girls," said Great Bend coach Lyles Lashley. "All the kids competed well for the weather conditions."
PANTHER BOYS — Triple-event state qualifier Kaiden Esfeld won the 800 (1:58.53) and placed runner-up in the 1,600 (4:31.32) behind Junction City's Tyler Atkins. The Panthers closed out in grand style with a winning 1,600-meter relay (3:35.19) with Oliver Dominguez, Esfeld, Alex Galindo and Madison Regehr.
Dominguez placed runner-up in the triple jump (42-3). Regehr placed second in the 300-meter hurdles (42.66).
