TOPEKA — The Great Bend Wrestling Club featured three state champions in the recent USAWKS 2019 State Folkstyle Championship Wrestling at the Topeka Expocentre.
The Great Bend team finished with a top 10 team finish with 190.5 points.
Great Bend’s state qualifier George Weber earned the high school 145-pound title after outscoring his competition 20-3, plus a victory on a pin. Weber defeated Mark Butcher 4-2 in the finals. Webber permitted three points in his matches.
Breanna Ridgeway captured the 14-and-under 129-137 girls division. Ridgeway dominated her division with a pin in all of her matches.
Cal Schartz captured the 8-and-under 61-pound division. Schartz won the championship match 8-1 over Hunter Pankey of Mill Valley Kids. Schartz outscored his opponents at the state meet 44-4.
Eleven wrestlers fought their way to a medal, including three who earned the top spot.
