Great Bend Middle School girls make school history

The Great Bend Middle School girls captured the Western Athletic Conference middle school cross country title. Team members feature Kierstin Ruble, Melanie Gonzalez, Teagan Mason, Yadira Alcala, Addy Nicholson, Daizy Gomez, Eliana Jackson, Brooklyn Ramsey, Melisa Gonzales, Abi Miller, Clarissa Bashor and Clara Vazquez.

LIBERAL — The Great Bend Middle School girls 7th-grade cross country team made school history by dominating the Western Athletic Conference meet with 25 points to outdstance runner-up Hays Middle School with 77 points. It marked the first time Great Bend had won the WAC cross country title.

Medalist Addy Nicholson (6:05.9) led the way with runner-up  Eliana Jackson (6:06.7) and third-place medalist Daizy Gomez (6:15.4) completing a one-two-three finish.

Seventh medalist Brooklyn Ramsey (6:37.1) as followed by  Clara Vasquez in 11th (6:44.5).  

The team will receive the MSWAC championship banner at a later date that will hang in the middle school’s new gymnasium.  

In addition to being crowned the MSWAC champions, the 7th grade girls were undefeated as a team for the season. 

“We went out and everyone ran the best they could each race and together we were able to win meets, it was a team effort,” Addy Nicholson stated when asked about the success of the team this year.
