LIBERAL — The Great Bend Middle School girls 7th-grade cross country team made school history by dominating the Western Athletic Conference meet with 25 points to outdstance runner-up Hays Middle School with 77 points. It marked the first time Great Bend had won the WAC cross country title.
Medalist Addy Nicholson (6:05.9) led the way with runner-up Eliana Jackson (6:06.7) and third-place medalist Daizy Gomez (6:15.4) completing a one-two-three finish.
Seventh medalist Brooklyn Ramsey (6:37.1) as followed by Clara Vasquez in 11th (6:44.5).
The team will receive the MSWAC championship banner at a later date that will hang in the middle school’s new gymnasium.
In addition to being crowned the MSWAC champions, the 7th grade girls were undefeated as a team for the season.
“We went out and everyone ran the best they could each race and together we were able to win meets, it was a team effort,” Addy Nicholson stated when asked about the success of the team this year.
