Great Bend High School graduate Lauren Welsch earns Newcomer of the Year honors in the KCAC.

LINDSBORG — Great Bend High School graduate Lauren Welsch from Bethany College has been selected Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Year and earned second-team All-KCAC All-Conference honors. Welsch scored a seasdon high 33 points against KCAC champion Friends University. The sophomore Welsch averaged 12.2 ppg after transferring from Barton Community College.
Welsch was selected KCAC Women’s Basketball Offensive Player of the Week and was nominated NAIA Division II Women’s Basketball National Player of the Week in December.
The Swedes finished the regular season with an 18-11 record, 14-8 in the KCAC.
Bethany Coach Keith Ferguson was selected KCAC Coach of the Year. Bethany’s Marissa Pope earned third team All-KCAC honors. Sydney Ahaneku was a honorable mention choice.
