SALINA — Great Bend's runner-up 400-yard freestyle relay earned a state qualifying time (4:11.93) at Friday's competitive Salina Swimming Invitational. The Panthers quartet of Aubrey Snapp, Ruth Williams, Emilee Hall and Ellyson Somers improved by 1.5 seconds to surpass the state qualifying standard. 

"Way to swim ladies. We've been training hard and it's showing," said Great Bend coach Kari Carper. "The girls placed third out of 10 teams at Salina.

Fourth-place Emilee Hall (1:01.11) earned a state consideration time in the 100 freestyle. Sixth-place Hall earned a state consideration time in the 50 freestyle (28.11).

Panther McKenna Cape was runner-up in the 200 freestyle (2:31.65). Somers cut 2.5 seconds and placed third in the 100 breaststroke (1:22.75). The Panthers finished third in the 200 medley relay (2:09.12) with Hall, Somers, Williams and  Snapp competing. Grace Dougherty cut 6.5 seconds in the 200 freestyle (2:41.82).
