Great Bend swimmers improve times at 5A state
medley relay
The Great Bend Panthers 14th-place 200-yard medley relay team of Ruth Williams, Emilee Hall, Zoe Jerke and Ellyson Somers.(2:03.61) improved 2.2 seconds and moved up six spots from qualifying.

TOPEKA – The Great Bend Panthers improved times in five events while scoring 15 points in Saturday’s 5-1A state swimming meet at the Topeka Capitol Federal Natatorium.

Ruth Williams improved six spots and 1.5 seconds with a 14th-place finish in the 100 butterfly (1;08.14). Emilee Hall improved 1.7 seconds with a 22nd-place finish in the 500 freestyle (6:03.0).

The Panthers’ 14th-place finish in the 200 medley relay (2:03.61) with Williams, Hall, Ellyson Zoe Jerke and Somers improved 2.2 seconds and moved up six spots from qualifying.

The 200 freestyle relay moved up two spots and placed 14th (1:50.03) with a season-best time. The Panthers improved 0.76 with Hall, Somers, Aubrey Snapp and Jerke.

The 400 freestyle relay made a season-best time (4:08.46) and improved 1.5 seconds with a 19th-place finish with Snapp, Jerke, Somers and Williams.

Larned splits baseball twin bill LARNED — Larned's baseball team rallied for a 12-1 second game victory over Lyons. The Lions won the opener. LYONS 5, LARNED 4 (G1)— Lyons' Zayn Zambo scored the game-winning run on Deacon Showalter's fifth-inning groundout. Lyons reliever Anthony "Ace" Ventura retired seven consecutive batters to earn a save. Logan Isaac scored on Ethan's Luck sacrifice fly in a 3-run third inning. Blake Smith and Ventura scored on Porter Anderson's single. David Meyers scored on a fifth-inning error for a 4-2 lead before Zambo scored a fifth run. Carson Shaver scored on Tristan Regan's first-inning single. Camden Bird scored on a Hunter Hobbs' fourth-inning double. Down 5-2, Larned's Andres Gonzalez scored on Mason Miller's single. Miller scored on Bird's double. LARNED 12, LYONS 1 (G2)— Larned's Bird and Reese Morgan each drove home three runs.
