HAYS — The Great Bend Kids Wrestling Club members earned nine first-place medals at the Western Kansas Classic wrestling meet at Hays High.

Placing first in their weight divisions were  Drake Martin, Braxton Richter, Cal Schartz and Jakoby Council, Carter Dreiling, Zach Hart, Trevin Maciel, Collin Mcginnes, Julian Montez in the novice division.

Twenty one competitors from GBKC placed in their respected weight/ age classes at this meet. 

Zach Hart placed first in his division. 

“This is my first year wrestling and I’m still learning,” Hart said. “Wrestling is a lot like fighting. I love the competition“ 

Cooper Liles finished runner-up in his weight division.

“I hate losing, especially in overtime,” Liles said. “You have to learn to take the disappointments and keep going. I want to place in state this year.”
