HOISINGTON – No. 25 Maleigha Schmidt celebrated Hoisington’s highlight by being named winter Homecoming queen after the ballgame.
State-ranked Haven converted eight 3-pointers, but had to work hard to put away the pesky Cardinals 52-28.
Haven’s Arie Roper knocked down four 3-pointers and scored 14 points. Haven’s leader Faith Paramore, slowed by fouls, scored 10 points. Sara Yutzy added nine points.
Hoisington (5-9, 0-5 CKL) was led by Kelsi Dalton with 10 points and Suzanna Schneider added seven points.
The Cardinals were within 25-17 on Suzanna Schneider’s 3-pointer, but the Wildcats pulled away with a 13-1 scoring streak for a 38-18 lead.
Haven (12-3, 3-1 CKL) scored 24 points outside the 3-point line and 26 points inside the stripe.
The Wildcats led 28-17 at halftime by converting turnovers into transition baskets and rebounds into second-chance points. Haven employed a 1-3-1 trapping defense.
