Colgan wins 2-1A state title

HESSTON — The Central Plains Oilers finished third with a 14-6 record at the competitive Mark Dahlsten Tennis Invitational April 28.

Perennial 3A state champion Wichita Collegiate (164) was followed by runner-up Hesston (126) and third-place Central Plains (114) as the 3-1A schools beat several 4A and 5A programs.

Camden Stiles (18-4) placed fourth with an 8-6 loss to Topeka Cair Paravel's Drew Fay. Collegiate's 3-1A state runner-up Amir Khicha beat Stiles 8-2 in the semifinals. Cale Thompson (12-13) placed 11th with an 8-4 win over WaKeeney's Garrett Malsam.

Both doubles teams finished with 4-1 records.

Peyton Dody/Alden Metro (21-2) defeated Collegiate's Harry Hoover/James Nolan 8-5 for fifth place. Richard Hayes/Scott Lamatsch (20-4) placed 17th with an 8-7 (7-1) win over El Dorado's Andy Wilkinson/Taidhgin Mora Bruce.
