HILLSBORO — Hillsboro quarterback Zayne Haslett rushed for three touchdowns and passed for two scores to spark the Trojans' 37-0 Central Kansas League football victory over Larned.

Haslett scored on runs of 3, 8 and 36 yards. Preston D'Albini caught a 32-yard strike from Haslett. Braxton Hiebert grabbed an 8-yard scoring strike.

Larned football coach Jason Duvall played without five likely starters due to injuries and suspension.

Larned’s first-half offense struggled as Hillsboro's defensive line controlled the line of scrimmage.

Larned's initial first down was realized when Hunter Pontius caught a 25-yard pass from Shaver. The Indians reached the Hillsboro 6-yard line before halftime.

“We struggled in the first half. Our quarterback Shaver didn’t have time to connect with our receivers," said Larned coach Jason Duvall. "We improved on that there late in the first half.”

Haslett opened the scoring on a 3-yard run. Hillsboro's Hudson Rodgers tackled Larned quarterback Owen Shaver in the Indian end zone for a 10-0 lead.

Haslett hit Preston D’Albini with a 32-yard touchdown pass. Haslett connected with Braxton Hiebert for an 8-yard touchdown pass and the Trojans led 24-0 at halftime.

Haslett converted an 8-yard run for a 31-0 lead.

Starting to the 49-yard line, Larned moved deep into Hillsboro territory but Nate Oelke intercepted a Shaver pass at the Trojan 14-yard line.

Haslett raced 36 yards for the final touchdown. Haslett completed 13 passes for 172 yards and rushed for 119 yards and three touchdowns.

Shaver completed 9 of 21 passes for 86 yards. Pontius, Koby Lang and Jax Johnson had two catches. Bentley Nelson, Slade Sundahl and Hunter Pontius caught a pass.

“I am pleased with our effort," Duvall said. "We are getting better. It is going to show as this season progresses.
