Hoisington baseball sweeps Ellis

ELLIS – in typical fashion, Hoisington rallied for a 6-5 victory over Ellis and swept the baseball doubleheader 8-0 Wednesday night.

Hoisington ends the summer with a 13-5 record.

HOISINGTON 6, ELLIS 5 (G1) – Hoisington's Trey Byers singled home Jerred Bieberle with the game-winning run. Hoisington trailed 3-1, but rallied with a four-run sixth inning. Holt Hanzlick doubled home Braxton Donovan. Hanzlick scored on Derek Boxberger's groundout. Cole Steinert doubled home Jacob Specht and Quentin Boxberger for a 5-3 lead.

Ellis led 2-0 when Teagan Cain doubled home Tyson Jimenez and Konnor Pfeifer singled in Cain in the first inning. Hoisington's Bieberle scored on Donovan's fourth-inning sacrifice fly. Ellis' Jimenez scored on a fourth-inning groundout for a 3-1 lead.

Ellis rallied for a 5-5 tie off starter Derek Boxberger. Easton Burton singled home Jimenez. Burton scored when Hoisington shortstop Hanzlick and second baseman Donovan turned a crucial double play to end the rally.

HOISINGTON 8, ELLIS 0 (G1) – Hoisington's Braxton Donovan and reliever Bransen Schulte combined for a nifty two-hit shutout with four strikeouts.

Ellis gift wrapped a four-run third inning with four errors. Bieberle, Byers and Hanzlick all reached base on errors. Bieberle scored on an error. Bransen Schulte doubled home Byers. Hanzlick scored on an error. Bransen Schulte scored on Steinert's sacrifice fly.

Bieberle scored on a fourth-inning double steal with Bransen Schulte. Hanzlick drove home Byers with a two-run homer for a 7-0 lead. Bieberle scored on Braxton Donovan's fifth-inning sacrifice fly for an 8-0 run-rule victory.
