HOISINGTON – Hoisington High School will rename its track at 2 p.m. April 2 to celebrate the induction of Bill Kimble, a 12-time gold medal winner, into the KSHSAA Hall of Fame.
Bill Faflick, the KSHSAA director, will coordinate the Hall of Fame induction ceremony. The public is invited to attend.
Kimble, 73, passed away in 2019 after a 33-year work career as laundry supervisor at the Larned State Hospital. Kimble served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict. Kimble and his wife Beverly are parents to six children.
The 1965 Hoisington graduate earned 12 gold medals in the KSHSAA track meet from 1963-1965. Kimble swept the gold medals in the 100- and 220-yard dashes, the 180-yard hurdles, and competed on the winning 880-yard relay three years in a row. The Cardinals won two state track championships.
Hoisington Principal Joel Mason made the recommendation that was approved by the Hoisington USD 431 Board of Education to rename the Hoisington track to “Bill Kimble Track.”
"Growing up and going through school here, I've always heard of Bill Kimble," said Mason. "He's portrayed as a legend here with his abilities to perform on the track."
The Hoisington Track Invitational in April will be renamed the “Bill Kimble Invitational.” A plaque will display Kimble’s track accomplishments.
Kimble holds the all-time state records for the 100-yard dash (9.6) and 220-yard dashes. The 100- and 220 races were switched to meters in 1979.
