Top-seeded 2A Ellinwood did what was expected.

For 1A Otis-Bison and 3A Hoisington, it was upset city en route to the state volleyball championships next week.

Ellinwood edged past Ellsworth, 25-23, 25-17 to sweep three matches at the 2A Inman substate. The Eagles downed Hillsboro, 25-15, 25-19 and Inman 25-16, 25-20.

CIMARRON—Hoisington upset three consecutive teams to qualify for the 3A state tournament.

The Cardinals shocked top seeded Scott City 25-15, 25-16 and upset Cimarron 25-20, 25-15 to capture the substate championship.

The Cardinals (16-24) qualify for the 3A state tournament at Hutchinson.

RANSOM – Last year’s 1A-Division 2 state runner-up Otis-Bison downed Atwood Rawlins County 22-25, 25-17, 25-18 and upset top seeded Kensington Thunder Ridge 25-25, 27-25 to qualify for 1A state at Hays.  The Cougars have qualified for the 1A state tournament three consecutive years.

Cougar standout Maddie Wiltse delivered the decisive game-ending spikes to beat Thunder Ridge.
