The Hoisington Cardinals capture the 2023 Gene Keady Basketball Classic.

HOISINGTON GIRLS 48, BUCKLIN 45 (1ST)

LARNED – Hoisington’s girls earned a threepeat by rallying from a 9-point deficit to edge Bucklin 48-45  to capture the Cardinals’ ninth Gene Keady Classic basketball championship.

Hoisington trailed 40-31 when Tiana Lutters hit a 3-pointer to spark a 17-5 scoring run in the final 81/2 minutes. All-tournament Jordyn Boxberger and Ellie Crawford each converted a pair of free throws to preserve the victory in overtime.

All-tournament Crawford led the Cardinals with nine points and Kelsi Maier and all-tournament Kylee Hahn added eight apiece. The Cardinals converted six 3-pointers.

Bucklin’s Sydnie Jones scored 15 points.

LARNED – St. John’s all-tournament Lydia Reed dominated inside with 20 points and Most Valuable Player Heidi Fisher contributed seven points and an all-around floor game in the Tigers’ 54-37 victory over Larned for third place in the Gene Keady Basketball Classic.

Larned’s Jadyn Crosby sored 13 point and Abby Holt added nine points.
