Kinsley girls shock Central Plains, 37-35

KINSLEY GIRLS 37, CENTRAL PLAINS 35 – Kinsley’s Courtney Arensman made a basket and free throw and Neveah Rice made a final free throw for a 37-35 upset victory over Central Plains, the first victory by the Coyotes over the Oilers in school history.  Kinsley had lost 15 consecutive games to the Oilers since the 2011-2012 season.

The Oilers’ Grace Lamatsch missed a final 3-pointer for the victory as the shot hit the front rim and bounced away. Kylie Kempke scored a basket and Lamatsch and Marilyn Soeken made free throws to get the Oilers within range in the final minute. Both Lamatch and Soeken missed game-tying free throws in the final minute.

Central Plains girls basketball coach Pat Stiles said, “we were not able to make plays when we needed to.”

Soeken scored 19 points and Lamatsch with nine points. Kinsley's Makenzie Herrmann scored 20 points.

CENTRAL PLAINS 47, KINSLEY 17 – Peyton Ryan scored 23 points and made five 3-pointers. Aiden Hekele contributed 12 points in the Oiler victory.

Kinsley’s Kaden Arensman scored nine points.

Oiler coach Michael Ryan said, “this was a good win for us. Every win matters for substate seedings. The end of the season is approaching, and it’s crunch time. We’re just taking one day at a time, and working to improve every day.”
