The Barton Community College women’s soccer team began the 2014 regular season on Friday, battling with Western Wyoming for 90-minutes before settling for a 1-1 tie.
With temperatures nearing 107 degrees on the turf, both teams played with limited squads agreeing to settle the season opener without extra time.
Outshooting the Mustangs throughout most of the contest, the Lady Cougars found themselves trailing with 24 minutes, remaining as Western Wyoming got on the board on an own goal.
Six minutes later, Barton’s Catlin Simon-Mans weaved through three defenders to blast in the tying goal.
The Lady Cougars will embark on a mid-week, non-conference match at Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa before returning to home turf for a weekend classic on Saturday against Western Nebraska and Trinidad State the following day.
