Larned baseball surprises Russell
LARNED – Larned pitcher Brady Hope checked Russell and the Indians handed the No. 8 ranked Broncos their first loss 7-3 in Tuesday’s baseball doubleheader. Russell (17-1) edged the Indians 6-5 in the nightcap. Larned (9-7) plays at Nickerson Friday.
LARNED 7, RUSSELL 3 (G1) – Larned’s Hope struck out nine batters in a 101-pitch gem. Eian Sanders singled home Hope and Caden Morgan and Ty Smith scored on a first-inning error. Cade Colglazier and Morgan hit sacrifice flies to score Mason Miller and Carson Shaver for a 5-2 lead.
Sanders doubled home Smith and Deacon Martin singled in Smith for Larned’s final two runs.
RUSSELL 6, LARNED 5 (G2) – Larned nearly rallied from a 5-0 deficit, but Russell reliever Mason Rohr retired Deacon Martin to preserve a 6-5 victory. Russell opened the door with four walks and an error in the seventh inning. Shaver scored a run and Smith singled home Hope and Colglazier in the seventh inning.
Russell’s Mason Rohr hit a 2-run single and Thaddeus Wohler delivered an RBI single for a 5-0 lead.
Larned’s Colglazier and Smith drove home Hope and Colglazier in the third inning. Russell’s Cameron Farmer singled home Charlie Krug with a valuable insurance run for a 6-2 lead.
