LARNED GIRLS 51, SKYLINE 11
LARNED — Larned's Taeton Reynolds scored 11 points and Akielah Collins and Cassidy Wachs added nine apiece in a 51-11 non-league basketball victory over Pratt Skyline Saturday.
Larned exploded for a 23-3 first quarter lead.
Using a tenacious full-court defense, Larned forced the Thunderbirds into 15 first-quarter turnovers and turned those into easy baskets. Skyline ended with 37 turnovers with a running clock in the fourth quarter. Larned coach Jerrod Smith went to his bench early and did not employ full-court defense after halftime.
Larned cooled off in the second quarter, scoring only eight points but their defense limited Skyline to just two, leaving the halftime score at 31-5 in favor of Larned.
“We didn’t know what we were going to face in Skyline. I found out at game time they were on their third coach this season," Smith said. "They had seven players suited up. They were outmanned, but played well, especially defensively. We hustled and defended.”
The Larned defense limited Skyline (0-7) to single-digit scoring in every quarter. Kory Anschutz led their scoring with five points.
Eight Lady Indians dented the scoreboard. Akielah Collins scored eight, Abby Holt seven and Jadyn Crosby six. Larned made 21 of 55 field goals (38%) and 4 of 11 free throws.
Larned (3-5) is scheduled to play at Lyons Tuesday, weather permitting.
