LARNED – Larned pitcher Madison Wood struck out eight batters to spark the Indians past Lyons 2-1. Larned swept Tuesday’s Central Kansas League doubleheader with a 9-1 victory.
The Indians (2-0, 2-0 CKL) finished last season with a 2-19 softball record.
LARNED 2, LYONS 1 (G1) – Larned’s Wood stranded the tying and go-ahead runners on base by retiring Jocelyn Vargas to end the ballgame. Jocelyn Vargas scored an unearned run on a sixth-inning error.
Larned’s pinch-runner Gillan Smith and Wood fourth-inning runs. Smith ran for Alexa Ryersee, who was hit by a pitch. Wood reached on a Lyons error. Both runners scored when Madison Reinert's groundball was misplayed.
LARNED 9, LYONS 1 (G2) – Larned’s Madison Reinert singled twice and drove home two runs. Wood and Teagan Walker drove home runs. Kenzie Reinert and Karley Lemuz each delivered three singles. Larned converted four Lyons errors into six unearned runs.
Wood struck out five batters to earn her second victory. Wood relayed to catcher Ryersee, who threw to first baseman Camryn Ettleman to work out of a bases-loaded first-inning jam with a double play groundball.
