Larned, Oilers still competing

TOPEKA – Larned state qualifier Abigail Holt (28-5) won two matches and Central Plains doubles Grace Lamatsch/Ryann Metro (20-12) was eliminated in the 3-1A girls state tennis championship.

Holt lost her opening match 7-6, 6-0 to Sterling’s Chelsie Brown. Holt bounced back with an 8-2 victory over Central Plains’ Lauren Oeser. Holt beat Chaparral’s Inslee Albright 8-2 in a second-round consolation match. Holt will play Cimarron's Emily Goetz in Saturday's first match. Oeser (21-12) lost 6-3, 6-1 to Kingman’s Ryan Schreiner in her opening match.

Oilers Lamatsch/Metro played in a pair of tiebreakers. They edged Hesston’s Jaiden Callahan/Carolina Yoder 3-6, 6-4 (10-7), but dropped a tight 6-1, 4-6 (10-6) tiebreaker to Osborne’s regional champions Gracie Riner/Leavie Riner. The Oilers lost 8-2 to Marysville’s Katherine Frese/Aubree Vering in a consolation match.
