LARNED -- Larned boys buried the Pratt Greenbacks with a 31-point second quarter for a 76-36 Central Kansas League basketball victory.
Chance Sanger led the Indians with 27 points. Brock Skelton added 18 first-half points. Supersub Layton Crosby scored 16 points.
The hot-shooting Indians made 31 of 51 field goal attempts for 60%. Larned forced Pratt into 22 turnovers.
“We needed to get our ‘mojo’ back after two straight losses, where we didn’t look like ourselves defensively,” said Larned coach Jerrod Smith. “We haven’t shot the ball well, but tonight, we did. We’re a different team when we make some outside shots and when we force turnovers.”
Larned (7-2,-1-1 CKL) plays Central Plains at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the St. John Mid-Winter Classic.
Pratt had fought Larned to a 16-14 first quarter deficit but then Larned’s full court pressure defense took its toll.
Larned’s Skelton scored 14 of Larned’s 16 first quarter points. Chance Sanger then took over for the rest of the game. Pratt scored 22 points in the final three quarters. Larned forged a 47-21 halftime lead that was extended to 65-30 after three quarters for a running clock in the final stanza.
Pratt (0-9,0-2 CKL) made 15 of 32 attempts for 46% but attempted 20 fewer shots Dawson Malone scored nine points. Matthew Shanline added seven and Jarrett Bates six.
The Indians played without injured starter Melo Bryant who is out with a wrist injury.
