Class AAA American Legion

Tonight’s scheduled doubleheader with Salina at the Great Bend Sports Complex is the start of a homestand for the Class AAA American Legion Great Bend Chiefs.
After playing host to Salina in 6 and 8 o’clock games at the Sports Complex, the Chiefs will set their sights on the 2013 Chiefs Classic, set for Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the same venue.
The four-team tournament includes the Chiefs, Larned, Buhler and the Hutchinson Blue.
The schedule, originally a two-day slate, was revamped. Great Bend will play the Hutchinson Blue in Friday’s lone game, starting at 6 p.m. The Chiefs take on Larned at 11 a.m. on Saturday, and will meet Buhler at 5:30 p.m.
Larned takes on Buhler at 9 a.m. on Sunday. That game precedes semifinal action, starting at 11, with one semifinal taking place at the Sports Complex and the other at Al Burns Field.
The championship game is set for 3 p.m. on Sunday.
The Sports Complex is also the site for the 2013 Braves Classic on Saturday and Sunday. The Braves did not field a team this season because of a lack of numbers. Prospective Braves were moved up to the Chiefs roster.
Complete Chiefs Classic and Braves Classic schedules will appear in Friday’s Tribune.
After the tournament, the Chiefs entertain McPherson on Tuesday and TMP (Hays) on Wednesday at the Sports Complex. Those doubleheaders are set for 6 and 8 p.m.
The youthful Chiefs, 0-6, were swept by the Hays Eagles, 20-0 and 8-0, in a pair of run-rule games on Tuesday night at Larks Park in Hays.
