LITTLE RIVER 55, CENTRAL PLAINS 47 (1ST) — Little River held off Central Plains 55-47 for the St. John Midwinter Classic championship despite a brilliant 26-point effort by Oiler Brodie Crites.

The Oilers sliced a 37-28 deficit to 37-36 on six points by Crites and a basket by Peyton Dody. Little River's Jaxson Konen responded with a 3-pointer and 3-point play for a 44-38 lead.

Little River (12-1) featured Lincoln Raleigh (16 points), Konen (11), Schubert (11) in double figures. The Redskins converted nine 3-pointers to outscore the Oilers 27-6 from long range.

Oiler Brodie Crites added 23 points with 10 field goals.

LARNED 41, INMAN 39 — Larned's 6-foot-7 Kylier Greene tipped in the game-winning basket at the final buzzer for a 41-39 victory over Inman in the St. John Midwinter Basketball Classic. Greene scored 17 points.

Larned's Anthony Gonzalez missed a guarded shot that Greene rebounded and put back in as the buzzer sounded for a 17-point night. Andres Martinez added eight points. 

Larned led by four points, but missed free throws allowed the Teutons to tie the score.

Inman's Malachi Brunk scored a tough driving shot for a 39-39 tie. Inman's Dru Harris scored 17 points and Brunk added 12 points.

Larned finished with 25 turnovers and Inman 21.The Indians overcame 8 for 22 free throw shooting.

"It's nice to win a close game," said Larned coach Luke Steinlage. "I'm proud how the guys fought and survived. We wouldn’t need a last-second basket had we made our free throws."

Inman switched defenses throughout the game to keep the Larned offense off balance. Larned used a 2-3 zone defense and stifled Inman's inside attack.

LARNED GIRLS 51, CIMARRON 18 — Larned’s Lady Indians used suffocating defense to stun Cimarron’s offense into an evening of futility to cruise to a 51-18 victory at the St. John Midwinter Classic Monday. 

Larned's Jadyn Crosby scored 21 points. Cammy Upson scored 11 points.

Larned forced 14 first-half turnovers and limited the Bluejays to 10 first-half shots for a 30-5 halftime lead. Larned’s aggressive man-to-man defense led to a running clock for the fourth quarter after a 45-11 lead after the third quarter. 

Larned’s offense operated with efficiency as the Indians shared the ball and hit key shots. Larned made 6 of 11 3-point shots and frequently got easy baskets with their crisp passing.

“Despite their record, Cimarron is a decent team," said Larned coach Jerrod Smith. "We needed to come out and take control early, and we did that. Our defense was super tonight and I liked how we shared the ball.”
