LARNED 52, CENTRAL PLAINS 45 (7TH PLACE)

ST. JOHN – The Larned Indian boys edged by the Central Plains Oilers 52-45, despite the Oilers only having five players available for the game.

Larned was led by Carlos Ibarra with 14 points. Guard, Ian Orth added 13 and Cade Colglazer 10. The Indians improved their record to 2-10 as they placed 7th in the St. John Mid-Winter Classic.

The Oilers (0-13) were led by Peyton Ryan with 24 points. Evan Stratmann added 10 and Kristopher Frost 5. Due to suspensions and illness, Central Plains played the game with five players.

"I'm happy to get a win but not happy with how we played," said Larned coach Luke Steinlage. "Give Central Plains credit, they were short-handed but played a very good game. We did not play well. We were impatient and did not attack their weaknesses. It was a frustrating game."

The Oilers led 10-6 at the first-quarter break. Larned finally started to focus on the inside attack and pulled even at halftime, 21-21.

Three straight baskets by Colglazier to begin the second half keyed Larned to a lead they would never relinquish. Central Plains struggled to score with the exception of guard Peyton Ryan who furnished most of the Oilers' offense.

Dominating the backboards allowed Larned to get a lot more shots than Central Plains. Larned made 23 of 45 shots for 51% while Central Plains was 12 of 38 for 31%. The Oilers made up for lack of field goals by going 15 of 21 from the free throw line while Larned was 4 of 10.
