ST. JOHN — St. John's Preston Dunn scored 17 points and Elijah Delp netted nine points as the Tigers edged Larned 37-26 in Monday's St. John Mid-Winter Basketball Classic.
St. John 15 of 37 for the game, resulting in a 40% mark. The Tigers made 5 of 11 free throws. Dunn scored seven third-quarter points as the Tigers pulled out to a 26-17 lead.
Larned's cold shooting improved in the fourth quarter as they made three 3-point shots.
Larned converted 11 of 41 field goals for 26% and 4 of 17 3-pointers. Carlos Ibarra scored eight points and Ian Orth added seven.
"Oh man, we could not make any shots," said Larned coach Luke Steinlage. "We got some good looks, but our shots would not go in. I liked what we did on defense. It was our best defensive effort of the season. But when you don't shoot, it doesn't result in a win."

JOHN – Macksville placed Alvaro Ibarra (14), Rogelio Ibarra (12), Hector Gomez (11) and Alexis Barrton (10) in double figures as the Mustangs rolled past Central Plains 70-38 in Monday's St. John Mid-Winter Classic. Gomez grabbed 13 rebounds. Barron contributed seven of 22 assists. Diego Esparza had six steals.
Central Plains' Peyton Ryan scored 16 points with seven rebounds and three steals.
